Getting to Dubois, Wyoming and the Lazy L&B Ranch: Airport & Travel Guide
Dubois, Wyoming sits in a quiet corner of the state, which is exactly what makes the Lazy L&B Ranch feel like such a true escape. But “off the beaten path” also means guests reasonably want to know: how do I actually get there? Here’s what to know when planning your trip.
The Best Airport to Fly Into
Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) is the airport we recommend for most guests. It’s just under 2 hours from the ranch by car, and it has the added bonus of putting you close to some of the most spectacular scenery in the country before you even arrive at the ranch.
Riverton Airport (RIW) is a very small, regional airport that’s an hour and 15 minutes from the ranch. It has just 2 flights per day on United through Denver, but it sometimes works well for guests.
There are other airport options with longer drive times so if Jackson Hole or Riverton doesn’t work, please reach out as we’re happy to walk through the alternatives.
Why Jackson Hole Airport Is Worth It
Flying into Jackson puts you within easy reach of two of the country’s most iconic national parks on your way in or out:
- The entrance to Grand Teton National Park is just under 90 minutes from the ranch.
- The south entrance to Yellowstone is about another 25 minutes further, through Grand Teton National Park.
Because of this, many guests choose to fly in a day or two early (or extend their stay on the back end) specifically to explore both parks before or after their week at the ranch. If you’re making the trip from out of state, or especially from overseas, it’s worth building in the extra day or two, since you’ll already be right there. If time is tight, a day trip from the ranch is also a possibility.
Getting from the Airport to the Ranch
We don’t provide airport transportation directly, but there are a couple of easy ways to get here:
- Rental car: One thing to keep in mind if you’re looking at rental cars is that not all agencies are on-site at the Jackson Hole Airport. This isn’t a big deal when you’re spending time in Jackson before and after the ranch but can be inconvenient if you’re going directly from the airport to the ranch or vice versa as the town is 15-20 minutes from the airport in the opposite direction of the ranch.
- Rental van: For larger families or groups, renting a 15-passenger van in Jackson is a popular option — and having a vehicle on hand also gives you flexibility to explore the area (Dubois, Grand Teton, Yellowstone) on your own schedule before or after your stay.
- Local drivers: Several local drivers offer transportation between the airport and the ranch, typically around $500 roundtrip per vehicle.
Arrival Day Timing
Our ranch ‘week’ runs from Sunday afternoon through Saturday morning after breakfast, so plan your travel with Sunday arrival in mind:
- Guests are welcome to arrive anytime after 1:00 PM.
- Between 1:00 and 3:00 PM, a short ride is available. The end time of 3:00 PM is a hard cutoff.
- We recommend being settled in by no later than 4:30 PM as the kids/teens’ wrangler dinner starts at 5:20 PM and the adult safety demo begins at 5:30 PM.
Given the drive time from Jackson, most guests either fly in Saturday or take an early Sunday flight so as to get to the ranch in good time on Sunday.
